Inspired by going out dancing at desert trance-parties and hard house air plane hanger raves of mid-90s New Mexico, DJ julia , crossed over to the dark side, Drum and Bass, after attending the Kung-Fu Knowledge tour which featured DJs like Ed Rush and 1.8.7 and was held on an Army Base near Santa Fe, NM. Seven years later she still hasn't left. Though she refuses to shake her introduction to dance music (on buying sprees you'll still find her thumbing the electro and 4/4 bins) that night with drum and bass was all it took to set her stance behind the decks.
Julia traded sunny Albuquerque for Seattle's charcoal skies, and soon her record box bulked up with subs and searing sounds. Weekly residencies followed at clubs such as Nation and BLU (722 E. Pike St.), with sets at the Baltic Room, Habanas, and afterhours not far between. From Liquid Sky days to Hospital's hottest track, the last seven years have seen julia grow into one of the leading ladies of Seattle's drum and bass scene - with a special affinity for the atmospheric sound she is also at ease slinging body blows from Dillinja or seducing with High Contrast's soulful hits.
2005 and 2006 has found julia spinning mainly Electro and Dance sets while still collecting drum and bass into her personal record collection. With two current club residencies on Capital Hill, Seattle; one at the War Room at a party called Cherry and one at a party called Le Freak.
I've also found myself wanting to have lots of time for production fun.
I just like to buy records that I know I would enjoy dancing to. Its important to please the crowd but it is equally as important to stay true to what you love to hear and play.
